Can you trust a car with over 100.000 kilometres?

This is one of the most common questions we hear and the answer often surprises people .

Many buyers assume, that once a car reaches 100.000 kilometres, it is nearing the end of its life. While that may have been true for some older vehicles decades ago, modern cars are built to last so much longer. Today, it is not uncommon to see well maintained vehciles travel 250.000, 300.000 or even 500.000 kilometres.

So why do so many people still focus on the Odometer ?

The truth is, kilometres are only part of the history.

What we look for

At Garage 27 we don’t choose vehicles based on the number on the dashboard. As mechanics, we know there are far more important factors when assessing a used car.

Every vehicle is evaluated for:

• Service history

• Mechanical condition

• Signs of regular maintenance

• Overall presentation

• How it drives and performs

A car with 180.000 kilometres and a complete service history can often be a much better buy than one with 80.000 kilometres that has been poorly maintained.

Why maintenance matters more

Think of it this way : Two people can be the same age but one may be much healthier because they looked after themselves. Cars are no different.

Regular servicing, quality repairs and responsible ownership have a much greater impact on a vehicles reliability than the odometer alone.
